By the Founder, Frank Trachsler, January 2020.
Frank Started the Meadowvale Dribblers Basketball Association in the Fall of 1983.
It was founded based on his love of the sport and an obvious need in the Community. There was only one other “pick-up” organization at the time that operated out of Gordon Graydon High School on weekends.
The response was overwhelming and there was a line up out the door on our first night for many years and a waiting list was established.
At the beginning of every season Frank spoke about the spirit of fair play and camaraderie. That spirit carries on today as there is tremendous sportsmanship and friendship displayed every time we play.
There are members that have been with us ranging from 34 years, 25 years and many have hit the 10 plus year mark in their membership.
Frank enjoyed hearing about players’ families and throughout the years has watched children of players grow up and join the league. That was very rewarding and it was a joy to see father and son play together in a sport they both loved.
Fortunately, there were many people who helped along the way, notably Claude Mailloux a 34 year member, Alan Attar a 30 year member Tom Pippy a 25 year member and Raul Suarez , also a 25 year member as well as Jake Azimi a 25 plus year member.
There have been hundreds of players over the past 36 years of The Dribblers’ Existence. It is run by a Board of Directors as a Non-Profit organization that Frank Established in 2012.
We are very thankful of our new Chair and President David Kantor who has carried on the same values that the organization was founded and has continued to welcome and encourage new players to join. He is also a 20 year member.
Tom Pippy , Alan Attar, Raul Suarez and Sam Kadic are the current directors . They all have been members for many years and share the goals of the original organization and bring their management talents to the organization.
Frank’s goal is to have The Dribblers continue on for many years into the future and foster the love of Basketball by providing a fun, safe environment for all of the participants.
Frank retired from the league in 2018 and would be playing today if not for knee wear and tear. Frank remains in a consultative role and continues to enjoy hearing about the league he founded 36 years ago.
